Questions
How much does it cost?
The first 30 days are free. After that it is a subscription, yearly or monthly. The price depends on your country, and Google Play shows it before you confirm. ZeroBox has no account of its own: you pay and cancel through your Google account in Google Play. Details are in the Guides and the Terms of use.
Does it need internet?
No. ZeroBox has no internet permission, so it works the same with the network off.
Can my files leak or be hacked online?
ZeroBox has no server, no account and no cloud, and the app cannot go online. Your files exist only on your phone, encrypted, so there is no online copy to breach. A phone that is unlocked in someone else’s hands is what your PIN is for.
Is it really encrypted, or just hidden?
Your files are sealed with AES-256, and so is the list of your files. Hiding the app icon is a separate feature.
Can other apps or the file manager see my files?
No. They are kept encrypted inside ZeroBox’s private storage, not in the gallery. After a file is added, the original is removed from your gallery.
Can someone screenshot my vault?
No. Screenshots and screen recording are blocked inside the app.
Are there ads?
No ads, and no ad code in the app.
What if I forget my PIN?
Your 25-character recovery key opens the vault. Keep it on paper, not on your phone. It stays with you, not with us.
Can I move to a new phone?
Save the whole vault as one encrypted backup file, carry it on a drive or a card, and open it on the new phone with your PIN or your recovery key.
What if my phone breaks or is lost?
Your vault lives only on your phone. We keep no copy and there is no cloud, so we cannot restore it for you. Your safety net is the encrypted backup file you save yourself, on a drive or a card. Open it on a new phone with your PIN or your recovery key. With no backup file, a broken or lost phone means a lost vault, so save one now and then.
What if I delete the app?
The vault is deleted with it. Save a transfer file first.
Will my files survive an app update?
Yes. Every release is installed over the previous one with real data before it goes out.
Is there a limit on photos and videos?
No limit on how many you add, only your phone’s free space.
Do I get my originals back?
Yes. Export returns the exact original file, byte for byte, to its original folder. It stays free, even without a plan.
What happens when my plan ends?
You keep viewing and exporting your files. Adding new files needs an active plan.
Can I cancel any time?
Yes, in Google Play, under Payments & subscriptions. Cancelling stops future charges, and you keep what you already paid for until that period ends. Deleting the app does not cancel it.
About
“ZeroBox exists because nothing else was good enough. The private-photo apps out there showed ads, looked bad, made simple things hard, and never made clear what happens to your files.
What you keep in your phone is your life: your family, your memories, things that are nobody else’s business. It should stay yours, and stay safe.
That is why your files never leave your phone. No server, no account, nothing online. Leaks happen everywhere now, and nobody knows who is next. Here there is nothing to hack, so nothing to leak.
We made it beautiful, easy to use, and cheap enough that nobody has to think twice. Because protecting what matters to you should not be a privilege.”
